What is double chance in football betting?

Updated November 1, 2026

Double chance lets you cover two of the three possible results with one bet. There are three options: 1X wins if the home team wins or draws, X2 wins if the away team wins or draws, and 12 wins if either team wins and only loses on a draw.

Why people use it

It removes one way of losing. If you think a team is the better side but worry about a draw, 1X or X2 keeps you in the bet if the match finishes level. The cost is lower odds, because the bookmaker knows you are covering more outcomes.

A worked example

Say our model gives a match these chances: home win 55%, draw 25%, away win 20%. The 1X option covers 55% plus 25%, so it wins 80% of the time. Fair odds for that are 1 divided by 0.80, which is 1.25. If a bookmaker offers 1.30, the price is better than fair. If it offers 1.18, you are paying for the safety.

The trap with short odds

A pick that wins often can still lose money. At odds of 1.25 you need to win four bets to recover one loss, so one bad result can undo a run of winners. Always compare the odds with the probability. Our double chance predictions show fair odds next to every pick.
